Sainte Enimie, Lozere
Sainte Enimie, 20 kilometres south-west of Mende, is considered to be one of ‘the most beautiful villages in France’ in the Massif Central. Sainte Enimie is set in the dramatic scenery of the Gorges du Tarn, surrounded by cliffs carved by the river.
The village dates from the 6th century and falls neatly into two parts: the cafes and shops that follow along the street next to the river, facing across to a ridge on the opposite river bank; and the old town that sprawls up the hill behind. Walk onto the bridge for a good view across the town and river. Between the tow parts is a street lined with gift shops and other small enterprises.
